Speaking with State House correspondents after his visit to President Goodluck Jonathan at the State House, Abuja, on Thursday, he said his visit was to assure the president of Ghana’s support for Nigeria’s effort to have a credible election as he  stressed the need for the people to be able to choose their leaders.

He said he used the opportunity of the visit to assure President Jonathan of “Ghana’s support, Ghana’s prayer and hope that the forthcoming elections in Nigeria will be fair transparent and free.”

President Mills added: “And will send out positive signals to the rest  of the world that our brother, Nigeria, is following the path which have been blazed  by other countries.

“We support them and want to do whatever it takes to ensure that the people of Nigeria are given the opportunity to choose their leader.”

The Ghanaian leader, who had earlier held bilateral talks with President Jonathan, assured of his country’s readiness to work closely with Nigeria with which he observed Ghana shared a lot in common.
